The Parish Council was invited to meet with Yorkshire Water on Wednesday 19 February to discuss the ongoing work at Swinton Pumping Station and the associated tanker activity.

Representatives from Yorkshire Water sincerely apologised for the ongoing works, tanker activity and associated damage in the village. As per the letter received by residents on 18 February, YW confirmed that they are working to repair damage to a c.700m stretch of rising main between York Road and Braygate (Castle Howard Road), and that this work would take some time to be completed. No timescales were given but Yorkshire Water has committed to keeping in contact with the Parish Council to provide updates throughout the process.

In discussion about the impact of the ongoing work on the village and residents, Yorkshire Water committed to the following:

  • The use of tankers rather than tractors with tanker trailers – these vehicles are narrower and quieter, and should therefore limit further damage to the grass verges and reduce noise levels.
  • With the agreement of the Sports Hall Committee, a compound will be created on a section on the car park for waiting tankers. This should reduce congestion, move waiting vehicles off the roads, and limit further damage to the grass verges.
  • Signage will be installed directing tankers and all works traffic along West Street and avoiding the narrow pinch points on East Street.
  • Any damage to the road / track at the bottom of Low Lane and past the sports hall will be repaired once work is complete.
  • All damage to grass verges and other locations in the village will be repaired and made good once work is completed. The Parish Council will be invited to join Yorkshire Water on a survey of the village to ensure all locations of damage are identified, and we can agree the specification to which remedial work will be completed.

Residents are reminded if they have any issues, these can be logged with Yorkshire Water on 0345 124 2424using reference Capital YW.204904, or please notify the Parish Council and we can also raise these with Yorkshire Water.
